I'm sure most of you have seen Napoleon Dynamite because it came out awhile ago and was THE movie to quote for awhile ("your mom goes to college"). But while watching it for the one-millionth time, I realized how unique it really is....
Who woulda thunk it was possible to make an AMAZING movie that has no sex, no alcohol, no drugs, no bad language... It's kind of refreshing to watch a subtle comedy like this one that isn't trying to slap me in the face with the usual shocking fart jokes like the American Pie movies and so many others.
So do we have the Mormon influence of the film to thank? As Jon Heder says in an interview with USA Today, "I want to get up there and tell entertaining stories but that are also to a certain extent clean."
Or is a trend for the future, because the shock-factor has gone too far?
SOTD is from the new iPod commercial that I loooove: The Ting Tings - Shut Up And Let Me Go
P.S. I've noticed my movie posts generally don't get any comment-love-and-affection, are you diggin' them or prefer other topics.. lemme knowwww loyal freaders
P.P.S. I've figured out the glamorous job/life that I want to be reincarnated into (from the last post), Run's children. You get to be a part of a wholesome family yet have a million opportunities at your fingertips (although the daughters are from another marriage so maybe its not that wholesome)...

You know what, you've got a point. It had none of those 'vital' ingredients which seem to (apart or together), make a smash hit.
Interesting. The checkout guy told me it was humour for dumb people. He said if I watched it it might not be my type of humour. It turned me against renting it and I got something else. Later I was like "But wait a minute, who says that watching this makes me dumb? Knocked up became a smash hit and it got pretty mixed reviews." So I watched it and I liked it a lot. It is really unique and I guess I'm just random enough to love it.
my three year old daughter LOVES that Ipod commercial, she stops whatever she is doing to dance to it. I'm planning on video taping her next time and hopefully posting it.
No sex, no alcohol, no drugs, no bad language are my favourite kind of movies.
I enjoy your movie posts, theyre good. Although my movie buying/watching has gone off a little as I try to adjust to a new life in a new country.
adaora a: i'm glad you liked it too!
rachel: hhaah sounds like something I'd do... i'd like to see that..
robbie: i could imagine that might happen!
Isn't it such an awesome film, with extemely fresh idea's. In saying that though, it's a one off and I don't think it's style can be replicated. Have you watched the film with commenty on? If not, do so asap as it will give you even more depth to the scene's..
It doesn't appear to everyone, and i guess those people just don't "get" it..
Love this blog, and I love the film reviews.
